What's in My Makeup Bag

Back in the day, I used to hoard makeup like they were going to quit making it.  I had an entire dresser drawer that was overflowing with products...most of which, I never used.  So over time, I decluttered and pared things down until I got to where I am now.  Everything I own fits nicely into this leopard print Betsy Johnson makeup bag.

I've also begun subscribing to the "quality over quantity" philosophy for a lot of things in life, including my makeup bag.  I put a lot more thought and research into each purchase I make, and don't make impulsive Sephora or drugstore runs anymore.  So what made the cut and lives in here?

First up are my face essentials:

  • Kat Von D Lock It Concealer Creme in Medium  I got this mainly to hide my new-mommy dark circles, and let me tell you, it's AWESOME!  A few quick dabs under my eyes, and I instantly look bright eyed and well rested.
  • bareMinerals Matte Foundation in Medium  I have used a variety of different mineral foundations over the years, but this is the one that I always come back to using.  I love using a powder foundation, because I feel like I don't really need an actual face powder, and I purposely get the Matte version over the Original.  (Because while everyone is all about that highlight, I'm all about controlling my natural highlight, i.e. my oily skin).
  • Physician's Formula Butter Bronzer.  This stuff...oh my goodness!  It smells like coconuts and sunscreen.  One sniff, and I'm immediately thinking about long days spent on the beach.  Plus, the color is light, not at all orange or super dark.  Perfect for lighter skin tones.
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blushes in Blushing Bride and Dollface  I am a HUGE fan of Tarte's blushes!  They're super pigmented, apply well, and last for, well, 12 hours.
Next up, eye goodies:

  • Too Faced Sweet Peach Eye Shadow Palette  I honestly never thought I would be a warm-toned shadow girl, but this wound up becoming my go-to.  Oh yeah, and it smells like peaches.  :)
  • Kat Von D Ink Liner in Trooper  Everyone usually raves about the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, but find that I prefer this one instead.  The tip is perfect for creating a fine, natural line.
  • elf Cosmetics Volume Plumping Mascara. I replace my mascara once a month, so drugstore mascaras are a must, in my opinion.  This one from elf has staying power, and gives my lashes just the right amount of definition and darkness.  Plus, it's easily layered up if I want a more dramatic look.
  • NYX Tinted Brow Mascara in Chocolate.  I don't give my brows a whole lot of attention, since I have bangs that cover them up, so a tinted brow gel to fill in a bit and put them in place is all I need.  This one from NYX is awesome- I've used it for years now.
And finally, lips:

  • Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Cathedral  This has become my new favorite lipstick.  While it can be slightly drying, if I make sure I have a coat of lip balm on before applying it, it's perfectly fine.
  • bareMinerals Gen Nude Buttercream Lip Gloss in Forbidden and Heartbreaker  ...and these have become my favorite lip glosses.  I know that matte lips are all the rage right now, but my inner middle schooler still loves a good lip gloss.  These have just the right amount of color and shine for me.
  • Burt's Bees Lip Shine in Blush  This is the perfect sheer gloss for when I just want a little something natural on my lips.  As an added bonus, it's super moisturizing too.
  • NYX Retractable Lip Liner in Natural  Automatic liners have become my favorite, since I don't have to bother with sharpening them.  And I love just having a neutral shade that matches my natural lip color because it works with any of my lipsticks and lip glosses.
As for my brushes, I keep a small assortment of them on my dresser in a silver mint julep cup.  Most of them are either from elf or Wet n Wild, and honestly, I don't remember the names for a majority of them.  But I will say that the elf Studio Line of brushes has always been my favorite.

Oh, and the bag is discontinued, but I got mine pre-loved on Poshmark, and there are quite a few others for sale on there.  Just search for "Betsy Johnson Makeup Bags".

If you aren't familiar with Poshmark, it's a really great app/website for buying and selling pre-loved clothing and accessories.  If you are interested in signing up, you can use my referral code BLWVX to receive a $5 credit that you can put toward your first purchase!  :)
