5 Ways to Be Happier in Your Home

I'm a big believer of making the most of what you have.  It saves money, is less wasteful, and gives a better appreciation for what's already there.  So here's a list of five easy (and free) ways to make the most of your home:

1. Search online for pieces that you already have.  Let's say you have a red chair.  Go to Pinterest or Google Images, and search for keywords like "red chair decorating ideas", "red chair living room", "red chair styling", etc.  You get the picture.  The idea is to find new ways to use what you already have, versus looking at images of things that you don't have and going out to buy entirely new pieces.

2. Keep your home clean and neat.  Designate a place for everything to live, and make an effort to keep things in those places.  Make the bed each morning.  Do the dishes.  Simple acts of cleaning will make a huge difference in the overall appearance of your home.

3. Make it personal.  Whether it's displaying a favorite childhood toy or a photo from years past, personal mementos are reminders of happy memories.  Not only does it make your home more personal, but having them out and in-sight is an instant mood booster.

4. Get rid of what you don't need.  If it isn't useful or doesn't have sentimental value, then it's unnecessary clutter in your home.  Be brutally honest with yourself, and donate the things that add no value to your home and only take up space.

5.  Open the blinds.  Natural light is the best light, for taking photos and for boosting your mood.  Seriously.  Just letting the sun shine into your home can make a big difference!
